Separation by W. S. Merwin

A highly imaginative use of Merwin’s short poem in a film called “Coping,” which Grace Cho says is the “first video/stop-motion that I made for my video class at Simon Fraser University.”

this is terrific — to take that short piece and build this video around it.

the thing that makes this stand out for me among the video poems i’ve seen is that this feels like a response that only this film maker could have assembled. kind of in the same way we’re told that our best poems are those poems that only we can write … the fact that a video response seems this way, too, makes it unique. i think a lot of times (not always), the video poems rely on images we could all picture when considering the poem. but not this one.

    wow!
