Trains of Austerlitz by Karen Mary Berr

A 2009 poetry film, newly uploaded to Vimeo, written, directed and performed by Karen Mary Berr.

Pomegranate by Karen Mary Berr

A new author-made videopoem by Karen Mary Berr with a very NSFW text in the soundtrack. The music is “Halfaouine” by Anouar Brahem.

Berr notes at her blog that the poem was prompted by the gift of a pomegranate. So the choice of imagery for the video reflects that origin in something a bit more than mere metaphor. The poem’s frank, first-person eroticism seemed like a good follow-up to yesterday’s video of a quote from Anaïs Nin.

Beyond the Seen by Yana Djin

This new poetry film by Karen Mary Berr is based on a poem by Russian-American writer Yana Djin (website, blog). In a post on her blog, Berr noted:

It has been said her poetry offers no consolation, no ‘right’ solution to the tragedy of life, but paradoxically this is precisely the only one I needed when the time came for consolation.
Yana’s voice is a true voice, with no concession, no need for gilding, no lies.
She’s not only an inimitable writer, but a beautiful woman and an irreplaceable friend.

Back to you by Karen Mary Berr

Filmmaker-poet Karen Mary Berr writes,

Back to you is a poem I wrote in 2011 and revisited in 2013, to express what I could feel in terms of longing.
Not a longing for any kind of after life, or any other state of being, but especially for a very embodied and carnal experience, that seems to have no limit in itself but is limited by death. I decided to express this through sensuality and sexuality for I consider both experiences devastatingly founding, timeless and unforgettable. This is the expression of a kind of reversed-longing, when all is gone, for our incarnation.
